MS Word Legal and Corporate:  Is This A Memory Issue or What?

Scenario: A call comes in from an individual who is working within Power Point.  Not a Power Point issue per se, but more of a photo display issue.  When a photo is selected and comes into Power Point, the photo displays fine.  But:  When they navigate to the folder on their desktop that contains the photos that they wish to use on their slides, they only see photo placeholders with the name of the photo underneath but NOT the photo itself.
My first move was to attempt to ask for small thumbnails thinking that their computer had a memory problem.  Even asking for Small Icons (thumbnails), did NOT change the situation.  Thoughts were maybe their hard drive is very full and their system is conserving memory wherever it can take it from.  When viewing the amount of room available on the hard drive at least half the hard drive was empty so that is not the issue. 
At this point I am thinking a particular setting is not checked or not unchecked.
Go to the folder that contains your photos:  This is what the issue looks like.

Under View:  Options, Change Folder and Search Options (right side of ribbon), 
Folder Options opens up, you have a General Tab and a View Tab.  Under the View Tab:  Uncheck “Always Show Icons, never thumbnails.”
Your photos should now display as usual.  You would rather know this simple fix than to tie up hours of your time and your IT groups time attempting to determine what is going on.

I don't believe this is a basic or advanced thing.  This is just one of the many things that can drive you crazy.
