MS Word Legal and Corporate - My Folder Contents are listing from Z to A.  How do I stop this? Scenario :  Simple enough but annoying just the same.  Got a call from an attorney who said each time she looks up files on her Desktop folder her laptop displays all of the contents (files and folders), in a Z to A format instead of an A to Z format, Click on the folder icon at the bottom of your screen.  Look for Desktop in the Linktree .  Click on Desktop . Your Desktop file folder will open up. Go to View Tab Go to Sort By Choose Ascending  Your files should now display A-Z.  Things like this happen.  But, as you can see, not a big deal. MS Word Legal and Corporate:  Is This A Memory Issue or What? Scenario:  A call comes in from an individual who is working within Power Point.  Not a Power Point issue per se, but more of a photo display issue.  When a photo is selected and comes into Power Point, the photo displays fine.   But :  When they navigate to the folder on their desktop that contains the photos that they wish to use on their slides, they only see photo placeholders with the name of the photo underneath but  NOT  the photo itself. My first move was to attempt to ask for small thumbnails thinking that their computer had a memory problem.  Even asking for Small Icons (thumbnails), did NOT change the situation.  Thoughts were maybe their hard drive is very full and their system is conserving memory wherever it can take it from.  When viewing the amount of room available on the hard drive at least half the hard drive was empty so that is not the issue.  A...

MS Word Legal and Corporate- I Did What You Said and I Still Do Not See It… Scenario :  Secretary calls.  She said that see cannot see the Headers and Footers.  They were missing altogether.  She explained that she wants to especially see her footer in order to see her page numbers.  Got it so far? The first thing I did was to ask her to switch over to Print Layout View because in Draft View , you will not see your Headers and Footers.  Well she did that, and nothing happened.  Still no header and footer.  All she sees is a divider line between each individual page . Adding Categories To Your Table of Authorities   Many people still generate their Table of Authorities using the MS Word Generic package .  Some firms use 3rd party software such as " Best Authority ". We were working on a large Table of Authorities.  All the entries needed to be marked.  There were cases , statutes , rules , as well as state cases . Within the Mark Citation dialog box it was noted that there was no State Cases category entry nevertheless, the attorney wanted the state cases separated out. 1.  We do not want to go down the road of running the TOA where all the cases were clumped together (Federal and State) whereupon we first had to separate them out manually.  You know that would be both time consuming and each new turnaround of the document would present a new set of separation and unnecessary work. 2.  MS Word does a decent job at generating the TOA provided that we help it to do so.  So let us see the very simple solution 3....

  MS Word Legal and Corporate - Get It Done Please… Scenario :  Attorney has a 47 separate Heading document.  The “Conclusion” Heading keeps saying 48 instead of Section 47.  Each separate section is being controlled by the style Heading 1.  With me so far?  For the first order of business, I ask the secretary if she would go into the multilevel outline dialogue box and confirm that Level 1 is “ Linked ” to Heading 1.  That was confirmed. I then had her go to the conclusion page ( Control End ), and strip the Heading 1 style off of the conclusion title.  Of course we used Control Shift N , and I then had her reapply the Heading 1 but it still read Section 48 when it should read Section 47. Meanwhile the attorney is asking what is going on and where is the document.
