MS Office Legal and Corporate:  2 Hours of Solid “Ask Anything You Want”.  Take Care of a Lot of Loose Ends… We have offered “ask anything you want” before and it was very helpful to those who took part.   You see, many people in our industry know a lot and have been exposed to a lot but nevertheless have questions about the software that they need to have answered.  The questions usually involved a missing step but on many occasions, they involved going through a procedure from beginning to end.   This two hour session can be is a 1 on 1 or 2 on 1, or you may also be part of a group and you want to do one question after another. This session includes narrative material to memorialize those questions that we went over and this will be provided to you post session.  You are the one who asks the questions.  Our job is to answer each question as thoroughly as we can.  You can ask one question or 10 questions.  It’s your choice.  Don’...

Track Changes Up To 365 - The Minor But Important Changes That You Should Know Scenario:   The secretary needed to change settings to conform to the needs of the attorney for an active Track Changes document. The request was for deletions to use strike through ( red text ) and additions to use double underscore and ( blue text ).  The problem was, she did not know where that was taken care of.   We need to get into the Track Changes Options Dialog Box to make the requested changes: Under the Review Tab: MS Word 7 and 10 - Click on the Track Changes Button Drop Down and  access the "Change Tracking Options..." For MS Word 2013 and Above, look for Tracking , go to Track Changes Options , go to Advanced Options , and then that takes you into the Track Changes Options Dialog Box For 365 Review Tab - look for Markup - Track Changes Options , Advanced Options - go into your Track Changes Dialog Box  Change User Name - This selection is for those...

MS Office Legal and Corporate - Dealing With Building Blocks - Another Way To Avoid Having To Do Things Again and Again… Scenario :  A number of years ago, when working as Coordinator in a word processing center, I had a document that I called “ Pieces ”.  That was my junk yard for pieces of documents such as all types of Caption Boxes, Signature blocks, Financial Tables, Red Herring Boxes, Line Numbering Boxes and other items that I used on a regular basis.  By having them in the pieces document, I gave myself a huge head start.  Well, at that time, I had known about Building Blocks but never used them.  Well, you can use my “Pieces” concept or better yet, an organized way to capture and keep vital items that pop up again and again so you are always in a position to never have to do them from scratch . How to create a building block; Highlight the content you want to save, which can include text, images, tables, or other elements. Go to the Insert tab , find th...

Different First Page and The Two Pieces of a Section... If you understand this concept in entirety, then you are far ahead of most people who have trouble dealing with separate sections and the "Different First Page" function when setting up MS Word Documents From Scratch. Different First Page:  Found Under Page Layout (“Layout” 2016 and above), Page Setup and go to "Layout" under Page Setup.  You can also find Different First Page under the Header/Footer Ribbon. Different First Page allows me to place something on Page 1 of a Particular Section (in the Header or Footer) and not carry it forward to the remaining pages of a given section.  An example would be the words Execution Copy in the Header  on page 1 of a section and not on any other page of this same section. Conversely , I can exclude something from the first page of a section and then have that excluded item on the second page forward of the section. A good example would be excluding the page number ...

Getting The Appendix, Exhibit and Annex Numbers To Go Into The TOC... Scenario :  In the back of my document, I have APPENDIX A - D and I have had the request made to include the A- into the actual TOC page numbering. Many of you (and this is fine) will put in an "A- " before the numbered Field Code.and it is an easy way to get the A- as part of the page numbering within the document footer itself.  Note: this method will not bring in A-1 into your TOC.  Using Heading Styles for the Headings of your Appendices or Exhibits will not by itself do it either.  Let's go over what needs to be done. 1.  Let us assume that we have a four level Multilevel Outline for the main part of the document so Heading levels 5-9 are available for this routine. 2.  Go to Appendix 1 and apply Heading 5 (or the next available Heading) to the Appendix Heading at the top of the page..  In the Multilevel  Outline, make sure you use "Link Level" to the proper Heading Style" ...
