Why don’t I have any space between my paragraphs? Scenario : In my litigation document, I had at the beginning of the document a Preamble Section.  That section had paragraphs A-G. Since my Multilevel Outline starts on the next page forward, I chose to use a List Numbering Style to take care of these paragraphs. I set up both the numbering aspect as well as the textual aspect of the List Style I chose from the right side style panel.   Once done, I noticed that I had no after spacing between each paragraph, even though I distinctly remember putting in 12 Pts. After Spacing when setting up the Paragraph Menu of the List Style I used.   With me so far ?  When using a List Style, the default setting underneath the “After Spacing” selection says the following:  “Don’t Add Space Between Paragraphs of the same type” and this selection is checked and therefore active. Many Financial Tables have side headings as you know.  Some use them for stylistic purposes, meaning a dotted line leader after each individual side heading.  So how do we easily take care of this?  If you have a simple method then it is rather easy. 1.  In your Financial Table, go to the first cell that will need a dotted line leader. 2.  Go to your “ Tab Type Selector ” (Left Side of Ruler) and click 2x until you see a backwards L or right tab type. 3.  Once you have your right tab type, go to your ruler and place the right tab as far to the right as you can for that side heading column which should be column 1. 4.   Double click on the right tab you just placed in the ruler and that will open your “ Tabs Dialog Box ”.   5.   Under Leader choose the #2 type leader. 6.  When you exit out of the Tabs Dialog Box, type in the first line of your side heading info and...

Using Multilevel Outlines? Don’t Type The Number... It really does not matter if you are doing MS Word Legal or Corporate, this issue will come up often.  Knowing this info, will solve a number of issues that come up when using Multilevel Outlining.  Here is Scenario No. 1. Scenario 1. A.  The numbering aspect of my Heading 1 is the word ARTICLE followed by the number 1.   When I bring in the first instance, the Heading works fine, but as soon as I introduce the second instance of Heading 1, the number portion refuses to tally to the next number forward. B. When you are in the Multilevel Dialog Box, you “Must” use the  “Number Style For This Level” option to choose the numbering type but NEVER type the number in as plain text.  When you choose the number type, it comes in as a field code and will thus tally up as you use the Heading Style from one instance to another.   If you type the number, it will be considered static text and will simply bring fo...

When teaching, I am often asked to distinguish between Paste Special Unformatted vs. Strip To Normal.   Although at first glance, one would think you are essentially dealing with the same scenario, it is actually not that at all. Strip To Normal :  ( Control Shift N ).  When we strip a piece of text to "Normal Style", we are removing from that piece of text all Direct Formatting (On the surface) as well as any attributes (Fonts, Bold, Und), Paragraph Formatting (line spacing, alignment, before/after,) contained within a Style that was attached to that piece of text.   1.   We do so to ensure that when we reapply a particular style or apply a different style to a particular piece of text that the text is clean and only the attributes and paragraph formatting instructions of the style we are about to use will be the only items that are attached to that piece of text.   2.   Strip...

My Method For Taking Care Of PNG Files Scenario :  I was asked to create a “Portable Network Graphics File” (PNG).  Sometimes PNG’s are used for situations such as Masteheads of websites, digital book covers for Soft cover books such as on Amazon, landscape type set-ups etc. 1.  PNG’s are often used where there is a larger area to cover and the JPEG type photo might not be enough to properly fill in the area with a certain quality of clarity.   2. Many people will usually create their PNG from a JPG photo.  The problem is, that not every JPG will look good when converted over to PNG.  I have an easy method that will let you know if the JPG is a good candidate for PNG conversion. 3.  Open up PowerPoint.  Load any theme you wish.  Bring in a Blank Slide Type. 4.  Right click on the slide and go to Format Background.   5.   Load your JPG.  It will fill up the entire slide.  Look to see if it pixelates or if the loaded ph...
