MS Word Legal and Corporate. Another Group of “What Nows” to Cross Off Your List…

No matter how long you are in this business, especially those in the word processing center sector know that on any given day, things come up and you end up saying “now what” so let’s go after three easy ones but keep in mind, they stumped three separate  people who needed help.

Scenario No. 1:  Secretary was working on a large 300 page document with many separate sections.  She was editing the various separate Headers and simply wanted to get back quickly to the top of the document.  She used “Control Home” and she could not get back to the top of the document.  She wanted to edit text that was not part of the Headers and this text was situated toward the beginning of the document.

I told her to close the Header/Footer section and then use the Control Home command.

Scenario No. 2:  An operator tells me that he keeps saving a one page PDF as a JPG as requested.  The PDF document was named “Letter PDF”.  He says he cannot find the JPG.

It appears that his eye kept focusing on the word PDF and if he would have looked a little closer, he would see that the saved file said “Letter PDF.JPG”.  It was there.  The word PDF in the name of the File momentarily confused him.

Scenario No. 3:  Secretary was working on a Financial Table whereby the attorney has edited “on paper” the Heading Portion of the Table on the third page of the Table.  She had set the Heading Portion of the Table to repeat at the top of every new page of the Table. She came across the edits on paper on the third page of the Table that the attorney requested and attempted to make the edits.  It would not let her edit the Heading Portion.

The solution was to go back to the first page of the Table.  You have to be in the Heading Portion on the first page of the Table in order to be able to edit the Heading Portion.
