When you hear the word Wildcards, many people turn off, run away and just feel that it is something a programmer type deals with.  I know I did for sure! What if Wildcards were explained to you where you can make use of them right away? I mean everything dissected and shown to you in plain language what each piece does for you.   Wait until you get rid of certain things in minutes that used to take hours.  By the end of the book you will be comfortable with the language of Wildcards. Setting The Page Numbering For Your Power Point Slides

Image
Setting The Page Numbering For Your Power Point Slides Two things involved.  One issue is how to hold off the Slide Number on the Title Slide.  The second issue is if you need to hold off the page number from the Title Slide and have the  numbering start as 1 instead of the Traditional 2 on the Second Page of the Slide Presentation.. First Issue:  Go to Insert and look for  Header/ Footer and when the Dialog Box Opens Up, click on the "Slide Number" box.  That will ensure you receive your Slide Number.  Then you can use "Don't Show On Title Slide" and that will hold the number off on the Title Slide. Next Issue:   Holding the Slide Number off of the Title Slide and have the page numbers start at 1 on Slide No. 2 1.  Go to Master Slide Ribbon and/or a Design Tab - Look for Slide Size,  2.  Once the Dialog Box opens, look for "Number Slides From" and choose "0".  This will produce a Slide No. 1 on the first page that th...

Properly Producing The Gap...

Image
Properly Producing The Gap... Scenario :   We have a Heading 1 Centered: Article 1 (Soft Return)  (1 line Gap) Introduction (Hard Return) Above, we have the situation of a centered Heading 1.  Between Article 1 and the "Introduction" line there is a gap of 1 line which is the look that the author wanted for that level.  The question then becomes how do we properly produce the gap? 1.  The Soft Return after the Article line enables the system to look at the Heading 1 style as one piece instead of 2 separate pieces if we were to leave  a hard return on the "Article" line.  We want both lines to react immediately from the one application of Heading 1. 2.  Some people will use an additional soft return after the Article line in order to produce the gap. 3.  So, how to properly produce the gap?  You produce the gap in the textual aspect of Heading 1.  You modify and set the Heading for Double Spacing (under Paragraph) and you make sure t...

When the Buffer Column is Needed In Financial Tables and Signatures

Image
When the Buffer Column is Needed In Financial Tables and Signatures  In this particular article, I will discuss two scenarios where Buffer Columns are used and why vs. when it is not necessary. Column Headings: 1.  For Column Headings:  if you use Border "Applied To Paragraph" then this leaves a bit of space on the left and right of the Table Cell and therefore there is no need for a buffer column.  There will be a clear distinction between the two side by side headings.   2.  A buffer column in this case, would "ONLY" be used if "Border Applied To Cell", were used since "Border Applied To Cell" leaves no space within the cell.  Two side by side cells using this method will appear as one solid line not two therefore a buffer column would be necessary to produce the visual separation. Use of Table Borders  As Signature Lines 1.  In this scenario, let us suppose we are using the Borders of the table in or...

Removing Word Art Styles From Text In PowerPoint and MS Word

Image
Removing Word Art Styles From Text In PowerPoint and MS Word Since 2007 MS PowerPoint has improved the Word Art Styles ( under Drawing Tools ) that give you a lot more choices that can quickly be applied to text.    You also get to "try on"each look by simply placing your cursor over the particular color scheme that catches you eye. It then will show you the look as you go from color to color.    In this way, you don't have to apply anything until you find what you want. It is not quickly apparent how to remove the attribute altogether if you decide you want the Word Art Style to be taken off that piece of text.   This can save you a lot of valuable time if you need to have it removed. To remove the Word Art Attribute  1.     Highlight the text that has the Word Art you wish to remove. 2.    Go to your Home Tab. 3.     In your Font area (to the right of "Decrease Font" and to the left of your " Bullets " button) ...

MS Word 2007-365 - Using The Hyperlink Feature When Setting Your Cross References...

Image
MS Word   2007-365   - Using The Hyperlink Feature When Setting Your Cross References... Scenario :  You are working on a document and have been asked to set up Cross References throughout the document.  The attorney also mentioned that he will be sending this same document to a client in PDF format for review.    Under “References”, when clicking on the “Cross References Dialog Box” you will see that one of those items that come into play is the “Insert as Hyperlink” selection.   As you mark your Cross References, make sure that you use the “Insert as Hyperlink” selection. Within MS Word, using “ Control Click ”, will enable the reader to jump to the paragraph, page or footnote that is being Cross Referenced. When you or the attorney saves that document directly over to Adobe PDF format, then a “ single click ” on a particular “Cross Reference” within the PDF will take you to the paragraph, page or footnote being referenced. It should be noted th...

MS Word Legal:  The Strategy Session Volume 2 Getting Ready and Structure First Authored by Louis Ellman  Finally, finally finally!  Clearing up the very thing that confuses most new MS Word users that is of course Page Numbering and Section Breaks! I teach for the public, top-tier legal firms, outsource legal staff, large corporations and I consistently see one thing that they all have in common: They do not have a routine that they use before they ever start editing a document.  Also, they do not have a routine that they use to properly segment, page number and title all items relating to structure.  This is across the board.  This book goes over these routines piece by piece and this is the same vital and unique info that I personally share with my students including many inside tips that are used in top-tier firms.  Below is a description of my book that will truly change the way you approach MS Word especially if you work in legal. MS Word Legal: ...
